July 9, 2026 — 1 John 4:18

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

1 John 4:18

Takeaway

Fear and love cannot coexist in the same space—one always displaces the other. When you're gripped by fear, it's because you've forgotten or rejected the truth that God's love toward you is complete, unconditional, and has already absorbed all the punishment you deserve on the cross. Perfect love doesn't eliminate fear through force; it casts it out the way light eliminates darkness. The fear that lingers in your heart is evidence not that God doesn't love you, but that you haven't yet believed His love is truly for you.

Application

Today, name one fear that's been riding you hard—rejection, failure, judgment, loss, whatever it is. Ask yourself: What punishment am I afraid of? Then sit quietly with the truth that Christ took it. Not someday. Already. Let that soak in for five minutes, and watch what happens to the fear.
